Organic Peet’s Coffee at Costco Review
This week I bought Organic French Roast Peet’s Coffee at Costco! I purchased it only 10 days after the roasting date! Peet’s Ground French Roast is a Dark Roast coffee, described as “coffee-forward, smoky, bittersweet, hints of caramel.” And it’s delicious! Costco has the BEST price on it, especially when it’s on sale! I super appreciate that it’s fresh roasted and sustainably farmed!
The Organic Peet’s coffee at Costco on sale right now is a ground French Roast which is a dark roast (my favorite!).

Roasting Date
Peet’s Coffee believes that coffee that goes from the roaster to the brewed cup in the least amount of time will be the freshest, best tasting cup of coffee. Makes sense. As such, there is a freshness stamp (aka a roasting date) on the front of every package.
Do we know how long our “other brand” of coffee sat around before we purchased it? Days? Months? A Year? That’s one thing in particular I LOVE about Peet’s Coffee at Costco…I can always see how fresh it is!
Why We Like Peet’s Organic Coffee
Peet’s uses their favorite beans for this deepest roast which come from the leading Latin American origins, such as Guatemala and Colombia. The high altitudes in this area enable coffee cherry to mature more slowly and become denser, harder, and packed with more flavor. This allows the beans to retain more of their bold complexity under the heat of a deep roast.
Peet’s is committed to growing their organic coffee with environmental stewardship despite an inevitably smaller yield. Organic farming is a local effort and is more labor intensive, relying on sustainable resources like natural compost fashioned onsite at the farm. While it’s more work to produce less coffee, Peet’s is committed to support the extra effort to produce meticulously grown, deep-roasted organic coffee that is dedicated to flavor, farm, and future.

Regular French Roast VS. Organic French Roast
This is highly subjective, I’m sure. But I have been drinking Peet’s coffee for many years now. I too wondered if the Organic was really any different than the regular French Roast. I think the Organic French Roast just tastes a little better, and is just a smidge gentler on the stomach. To give credit where credit is due, the regular French Roast is also fantastic, and we definitely but it too! But in my opinion, it is worth the small extra cost to buy the organic. Additionally, it’s farmed more sustainably.
Preparation Ideas
French Press: Steep French Roast for 5 minutes in your french press for a rich, full-bodied cup of coffee.
Pour Over: Also 5 minutes. This method has re emerged as a popular way to bring out all the flavors with a cleaner tasting cup of coffee. This is the “Peetnik” preferred method.
Coffee Maker: This is what I use…I drink too much to use the above methods! If you can spend a little extra on a coffee maker that heats the water really hot…I think it’s worth it! But I’m pretty sure you’ll enjoy this no matter what!
