3 Home Safety Deals at Costco for Spring

Costco Fire Extinguishers, Smoke Alarms and Carbon Monoxide Detectors on Sale

Every Spring Costco has a great sale on these three home safety items.  They don’t all need to be replaced or updated every single year – but I use this sale every year as my own reminder to check all of them in my house because it’s a good habit to just check basic safety devices in your house once a year. Of course doing it at the time when you can replace them for a great price at Costco is the perfect time to do it, right? So maybe you do too? The three items Costco puts on sale every Spring are their First Alert fire extinguishers, and the combination First Alert smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector which come in wired or wireless.

I have all three of these items in my house and recommend.  We have one set of wired smoke alarms just to ensure that we’re never caught with no batteries in smoke alarms – but the expense to have an electrician wire all the smoke alarms is a lot…so we didn’t wire all of them. The smoke alarms are very thin profile and I like them because they hug the ceiling nicely.  If you have been replacing batteries in really old smoke detectors that are sitting 1.5-2 inches off your ceilings, I think you might find that you really like the way that these look.  Updated these and old can lighting is money well spent in your main living space – my two cents!!

.

Tip: If you’re installing can lighting…have your electrician wire these First Alert smoke alarms at the same time!

Availability Note: Fire Extinguishers and Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Detectors are available all year in the warehouse. I have only noted them missing on very few occasions – in generally, I would say you can rely on finding in them in-store. They’re also online. They go on sale each Spring.

These are $10 off right now so it’s a good reminder to check the expiration and [continued] presence of a fire extinguisher under your sink and/or near your barbecue grill (or wherever it makes sense in your house to have one).

$30 could seriously save a house from thousands of dollars in damage or even a lossโ€ฆitโ€™s also smart to have one in RVs or tucked into camping gear. Just remember where you put it and make sure all the adults in the house do too – put it one place and keep it THERE always.

First Alert Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarms – Battery – on Sale for $54.99

I personally use these First Alert Smoke alarm and CO detectors in my house, and they’re super easy to put up and have a really thin profile. They have 10 year batteries in them. The new ones come with a feature where you can program it to say it’s location so if it goes off it will tell you which room  and which type of alarm is going off.  Mine are several years old and either it didn’t have this feature or I didn’t use it when I set them up-  it was honestly so many years ago when I put mine in that I don’t believe it had this feature at the time I don’t remember itโ€ฆ but it’s a pretty neat feature because when a smoke alarm is going off it is pretty difficult to tell which one is going off especially if you have a couple smoke detectors that are installed close to each other.

Also worth notingโ€ฆyou are selling your house, or plan to in the next year, check the laws in your state because a lot of stays require you to have a carbon monoxide alarm in the house when you sell it so this is a great opportunity to upgrade your smoke alarms and fulfill that requirement in one device. And of course it’s also certainly not a bad idea to have at least one carbon monoxide detector in the house.
