Why We Like It – Review
Costco’s gyro kits come with all the fixings for six make-your-own gyro pitas. So everyone can use what they like and leave what they don’t. Each prepared meal kit at Costco includes a generous portion of pre-cooked gyro meat, 6 rounds of pita bread, 2 cups of tzatziki sauce, and toppings of chopped romaine lettuce, diced red onion, crumbled feta, and a tomato cucumber salad.
You just need to heat the Gyro meat up, and serve! By nature, gyro meat can tend to be greasy, and the Kirkland Signature Gyro meat in the kit is no exception. The directions simply state to preheat the skillet to medium and cook until the meat reaches 165F. Below I’ll leave my prep method in the recipe card, and basically I cook the meat on low, covered for a while to cook out more fat, then I drain it and brown it to reduce the grease. It takes a bit longer, but it’s very easy.
Many love the meat greasy just as it is, and that’s ok too. But if you’ve never made it before…it’s just good to know 🙂
To the negative, the tzatziki is pretty mediocre…but all in all…we’re fans of the kit and when the tzaziki is used incorporated into all the rest it’s fine.
