How to Wash Pendleton Blankets from Costco to Maintain Their Like-Brand-New Softness
Brand new Pendleton blankets from Costco are super soft and a family favorite at my house. The first set of blankets I bought was quickly ruined after I washed them, which was really disappointing. The price is right, though, and I rolled the dice and bought another set when I found them for a great deal online.
The second time around, I took care to wash them and dry them properly in order to maintain their softness, and so far, so good. They are still 95%+ like new and theyโve been washed at least five times.
The trick isn’t really a trick…it probably won’t surprise you at all. Just launder the Pendleton blankets like you would treat any other delicate or inexpensive synthetic clothing garment: wash it on the gentle cycle on cold, then hang it to dry…and only put it in the dryer for five minutes on low or medium at the very end when it is already 95% dry to fluff it and soften it a little.
Itโs not the construction of the blanket that is the issue, but the material that just does not hold up in the dryer…especially on high heat and for a long period of time. High or prolonged heat fundamentally makes the fabric rough and permanently ruins even after only one dry. I havenโt washed it in hot water, but I suspect extremely hot water may have a similar effect. I would stick with cold water, or warm water at the most if you feel thatโs absolutely necessary.
Minimizing washing is also extremely helpful…so if your kids are using these…restricting the use of the blanket to areas/activities where it isnโt going to need to be washed particularly often. I know that is not always possible to control, but being mindful of how you use it can help reduce the frequency of washing needed and extend that brand new Costco Pendleton blanket softness longer.
