When you fill a mason jar with layered cake, the result tends to be a thing of beauty. I recently tried the Death by Chocolate dessert jars at Costco and I got to experience his first hand. It was everything I imagined it would be…and more! The fun part is deciding whether to eat it layer by layer or to dig your spoon straight down to bottom and pull up a spoonful of the entire concoction.

You can buy them in-store at Costco nationwide, they are refrigerated and you’ll find them in the specialty aisles, near the meat section. They aren’t online at Costco.com (yet) but we hope to see them available there too soon!

Dan’s Review

Rightfully named, it was an explosion of chocolate of all kinds. These dessert jars at Costco from La Vie Gourmand are filled with layers of chocolate cake, chocolate mousse, cookie crumbles, chocolate cream, and topped with chocolate curls. The cake is a nice base for the bottom layer. The Italian chocolate mousse was absolutely delicious. Creamy and rich and provides a great texture to balance out all of the components. I enjoyed the entire dessert with spoonful’s of all the layers combined.

Each pack of “Death by Chocolate” dessert cups come with 6 individual servings in glass mason jars. Simply stored in the refrigerator – these can be taken out to eat whenever you’re ready to enjoy. The dessert was great, and the added value of being able to reuse the resealable mason jars is great too! I reused mine by filling them with spices, candies, and I even used them to organize some of my office supplies like pens and paper clips.

Overall, these La Vie Gourmand Death by Chocolate layered dessert jars from Costco are a must-try for the all the chocolate lovers out there. And it’s a great bonus to get a nice new set of mason jars as well.
