8 New Costco Recalls in Connection with Listeria Contamination
Updated February 9, 2024: Costco has issued 8 voluntary product recalls in connection with a potential Listeria contamination of a cheese or dairy ingredient supplied by Rizo-Lopez Foods, Inc. Although the FDA and the company sate that this is a voluntary recall, the issue in question is Listeria, which I think should be taken very seriously, and I absolutely would encourage you to discontinue consuming any of the products in question. The 8 Costco recalls include the following affected products: Rojo’s 6 Layer Dip, Don Pancho Cilantro Lime Crema, Kirkland Signature Southwest Chicken Wrap, Don Pancho Crema Trio Pack, Kirkland Signature Chicken Street Taco Kit, The Perfect Bite Mexican Style Street Corn Bites, Queso Crunch Salad Kit and Maverick Foods Chipotle Chicken & Rice Bowl.
At this time, the Company states that the recall is a voluntary Class 1 recall due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. This means that the Costco products being recalled are done so in “an abundance of caution” however consumers should stop consuming the affected product and return the unused portion to their local Costco for a full refund. ProTip: Although Costco does contact individual members who purchased these items via email, please keep in mind that only the primary member on each Costco membership receives product safety and recall emails. What is Listeria?
Listeria is a bacteria that can lead to severe, and in some cases, deadly infections. It poses a higher risk to young children, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems. While healthy individuals might experience only temporary symptoms such as high fever, intense headaches, stiffness, nausea, stomach pain, and diarrhea, the infection is particularly dangerous for pregnant women, as it can result in miscarriages and stillbirths.
