Did Costco Recall Similac Formulas? Yes. Here’s what we know….Abbott issued a recall of infant powder formulas, including Similac®, Alimentum® and EleCare® due to possible bacterial contamination. The Recalled Similac products sold at Costco include Similac Powder Formula with Costco Item Numbers 1152772, 1152789, 1160867 and 1160868.
Here’s what we know so far on the Costco Recall of Similac:
Investigation is ongoing, however, these products are all manufactured in a plant in Sturgis, MI and there have been 4 consumer claims of Cronobacter sakazakii and Salmonella poisoning. Abbott’s investigation surfaced evidence of Cronobacter sakazakii in a non-product contact area of the company’s manufacturing facilities. To date, distributed product has not tested positive for any bacteria, including the samples provided from the consumer claims.
That said, bacterial contamination is something to be VERY careful of, and we’re glad to see Abbott pulling the product.
