Costco Recall Similac Formula
Did Costco Recall Similac Formulas? Yes. Here’s what we know….Abbott issued a recall of infant powder formulas, including Similac®, Alimentum® and EleCare® due to possible bacterial contamination. The Recalled Similac products sold at Costco include Similac Powder Formula with Costco Item Numbers 1152772, 1152789, 1160867 and 1160868.
Here’s what we know so far on the Costco Recall of Similac:
Investigation is ongoing, however, these products are all manufactured in a plant in Sturgis, MI and there have been 4 consumer claims of Cronobacter sakazakii and Salmonella poisoning. Abbott’s investigation surfaced evidence of Cronobacter sakazakii in a non-product contact area of the company’s manufacturing facilities. To date, distributed product has not tested positive for any bacteria, including the samples provided from the consumer claims.
That said, bacterial contamination is something to be VERY careful of, and we’re glad to see Abbott pulling the product.

How to Identify Costco Recall Similac Product
The recalled products have a multidigit number on the bottom of the container starting with the first two digits 22 through 37, contains K8, SH, or Z2 and with an expiration date of April 1, 2022, or after.

Products NOT Recalled
The recall does not include any metabolic deficiency nutrition formulas.
No Abbott liquid formulas, powder formulas, or nutrition products from other facilities are impacted by the recall.
Testing of Distributed Products on Recall
The company noted that at this time no distributed product has tested positive for the presence of either of these bacteria.
Abbott stated that all finished products are tested for Cronobacter sakazakii, Salmonella Newport and other pathogens and they must test negative before any product is released.
Testing of Samples from 4 Consumer Claims of Bacteria
Abbott also stated that retained samples related to the three complaints for Cronobacter sakazakii tested negative for Cronobacter sakazakii. And the retained sample related to the complaint for Salmonella Newport tested negative for Salmonella Newport.Â
